Joyce Bacon Obituary, Death – Joyce Hughes Bacon passed away on October 9, 2023, with her family present at her bedside when she did so. She could look back on her life with pride and contentment. Joyce was a devoted Christian who followed the teachings of Jesus and was a part of the Boynton Baptist Church. In the year 1956, she graduated from Rossville High School with her high school diploma.
Shopping, hanging out with her friends and family, and watching athletic events, particularly those involving the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves, were some of her favorite things to do in her spare time. Joyce spent her whole working life at Rossville Middle School, retiring from J.C. Penney as well as the Walker County Board of Education at the end of her tenure there. Before she did, her brother Garland Benard Hughes, her father Jack Hughes, and her mother Verda Hughes all passed away.
Sam Bacon also passed away before she did. Her husband had passed away prior to her passing. The only members of her family who are able to carry on her legacy are her daughter, Barbara (Brett) Hamilton, her son, Daniel (Regina) Bacon, her sister, Carolyn (Charles) McElhaney, her two granddaughters, Larissa Hamilton and Brettney (Anthony) Williams, her great grandson, Blake Hamilton, her niece, Gail Hughes Peters, and her nephews, Bill and Kevin McElhaney. The relationship between Shane Blaylock and Allen Peters is that of grand nephews.
