Samuel Driedger Obituary, Death – On June 29th, 2004, amidst the warmth of love and on the auspicious occasion of his parents’ second wedding anniversary, Samuel Carlton Driedger came into this world in St. Louis, MO. A beautiful and sweet soul, Samuel, fondly known as Sam, graced the lives of his parents, Erin and Jason Driedger, sister Lila, brother Will, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. On January 27th, 2024, at the tender age of 19, Sam transitioned to the Kingdom of Heaven, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
A Scholar and Aspiring Therapist
Sam was in his sophomore year at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, passionately pursuing a degree in psychology. With aspirations of furthering his education and becoming a therapist, Sam’s dedication to his studies was evident in his pursuit of knowledge and personal growth.
A Journey Through Education
Sam’s educational journey began at St. John the Baptist Elementary School, where he attended preschool through 1st grade. Baptized into the Catholic faith at St. John’s and making his first communion at Queen of All Saints Church, Sam’s spiritual foundation was nurtured early in life. He continued his academic endeavors at Point Elementary School, Oakville Middle School, and graduated from Oakville High School in the Mehlville School District, leaving an indelible mark on the institutions that shaped his formative years.
A Multi-Talented Individual
Sam’s pursuits extended beyond academics, showcasing his multifaceted talents. As a high school and college student, he worked diligently at various places, including Schnucks, Sam’s Club, and Grant’s Farm. His love for music, video games, and fishing resonated with friends and family, making him a vibrant presence in their lives.
From teaching himself to play the guitar, with a penchant for Nirvana and The Beatles, to playing the trombone in the band at Oakville Middle School, Sam’s artistic inclinations were diverse. His appreciation for rock classics and a fascination with trains, especially Thomas the Tank Engine, added unique dimensions to his personality.
A Gentle Spirit and True Friend
Sam’s easy-going temperament, peaceful spirit, and quiet dignity endeared him to all who knew him. A great listener, a good friend, and always equipped with a sense of humor, Sam navigated life with grace. His unflappable coolness and warmth left an enduring impression on those fortunate enough to share in his journey.
A Fond Farewell
As we bid farewell to Sam, we remember the honor it was to witness his growth into the remarkable man he became. The impact he made on the lives of those around him will forever be etched in our hearts. A funeral mass, presided over by family friend Fr. Mitch Doyen, will be held at St. John the Baptist Church in South St. Louis City on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at 1:30 PM. Following the mass, a visitation will take place at St. John the Baptist Church, providing an opportunity for friends and family to come together in remembrance. The service will be held at Kutis South County Chapel, a fitting tribute to a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
